History of Glen

Most of the Glen community was developed between 1915 and 1930. by 1915, one large parcel of land, bounded by Taney Road, Park Heights Avenue, Western Run, and roughly, Strathmore Avenue, had been subdivided; several houses had also been built, along Strathmore Avenue and Pinkney Road. By 1929, the major portion of Glen had been subdivided and to varying degree developed, almost entirely as single family detached frame homes. With the exception of land adjacent to the Western Run the portion of the Glen community south of Taney Road and west of Park Heights Avenue was about two-thirds developed by 1929. West of Park Heights Avenue and south of Fords Lane, subdivided land was about one-half developed by this date. Between 1940 and 1960 most of the remaining vacant land in Glen was built upon. Apartment buildings were constructed along Park Heights Avenue and Cross Country Boulevard, and almost all remaining small lots were infilled with single family detached houses.
