1000 residences, three small business districts; Cold Spring Lane, Falls Road and the Village of Cross Keys comprise a neighborhood settled within a rolling landscape of Maryland piedmont forest.

Baltimore Country Club is a private club with extensive open space in the neighborhood and is therefore used as a park. Another park Stony Run forms a portion of the eastern edge of the neighborhood. An historic Water tower on a geologic highpoint in the neighborhood, owned by the City of Baltimore Department of Public Works, is a central landmark. Several of the educational institutions listed below have open spaces that are used as parks.

Roland Park Company was formed to purchase the Woodlawn and Oakland estates in 1891. Land plan was initiated in 1892 and backed by British investors. Originally part of Baltimore County and incorporated into the City of Baltimore 1918. Plat one was designed by Kessler. Subsequent plats were designed Frederick Law Olmsted and/or Olmsted Brothers utilizing picturesque planning principles of the time.

  • The neighborhood contains several public and private schools; Gilman Country, Roland Park Elementary and Middle Schools, Friends School, Odyssey School, Bryn Mawr, Saint Mary's Seminary School of Theology, Loyola College, Johns Hopkins University, Notre Dame College of Maryland and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute are adjacent to the neighborhood. The open spaces contained within the grounds of these institutions are used as parks by many residents.

The neighborhood contains places of worship for several denominations. Many of the educational institutions in the neighborhood are associated with churches. In addition to these, Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Mennonite churches are located along Roland Avenue.
