Primarily single family homes of medium size (1000-3000 sq. ft) consisting of a wide variety of styles.  Types include Bungalow, Colonial, Tudor, American Four-Square, Cape Cod, and Spanish Revival.  The majority of homes were constructed during the 1920's and 1930's and feature hardwood floors- many with walnut inlays- fireplaces and stained glass windows.

The northern sections were first laid-out in 1913, making Westgate one of the first subdivisions in the West Baltimore/Catonsville area.   Westgate was considered a 'trolley community' due to its proximity to the Ellicott City line which then ran on present day Edmondson Ave.  The community association was established in 1931.
