rh-lots to love

Browse through the amazing galleries of the Baltimore Museum of Art or the Walters Art Museum. Step inside the majestic Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and listen to the melodies of great composers of the past and present. Experience the opera at the Lyric for the first time, try a play at Center Stage, or take in a Broadway show at the new Hippodrome Theatre. There's art everywhere in Baltimore! From murals on buildings and wacky window shrines, Baltimore is a mix of the past and the present; the "kitsch" and the cultural; the unique and the unusual; and sophisticated new development all in one. In fact, beautifully polished marble steps, painted screens and incredible architecture are all a part of the allure of Charm City.

yh-shopping
Stroll the cobblestone streets of historic Fells Point and drop into one of the many antique shops. Head over to Federal Hill for real treats and real deals. Or take in Canton Square to find specialty shops, salons and dayspas among the many fabulous restaurants and bars. Journey uptown to grab a bagel at Belvedere Square before catching a film at the Senator Theatre. There are also more bookstores, outlet centers and malls nearby filled with familiar retailers.

Recreation and quality-of-life factors are often cited as among major influences when deciding on a place to live. From the Super Bowl the champions Baltimore Ravens and the beloved Orioles, to international sailing races and the Preakness Stakes; Baltimore is home to world class sporting events As much as we love our neighborhoods we cherish our extensive parks even more. Featuring over 7,000 acres of parkland in 400 different locations and 45 recreation centers we are a big city with a penchant for "green space". Properties range in size from the countries 2nd largest urban forest at Gwynns Falls and Leakin Park, to small neighborhood lots and gardens. Baltimore's extensive park system winds through rolling hills and much of it was laid out by the great landscape designer Frederick Law Olmstead who designed New York City's famed Central Park. Like that other renowned park, Baltimore's Druid Hill Park is carved around a reservoir and includes the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, a beautifully restored, Victorian glass Conservatory, tennis courts, a pool and a lake.

If you want to do like the locals do then you will be sure to hit one of the city's 7 municipal markets, including the world-famous Lexington Market, the world's largest, continuously running market (more than six generations old)! There you will find the freshest seafood, produce, local crafts, flowers and homemade chocolates. Each Sunday, from May through December, the Baltimore Farmers' Market offers regionally grown produce with fruits, vegetables and herbs, cheese, homemade breads, and prepared culinary treats. The state's largest producers-only market is located at Holliday and Saratoga streets under the I-83 expressway. The Waverly Market at 32nd Street is a popular shopping site each Saturday. Open year-round, one can find a close-knit group of vendors offering beautiful flowers, sensuous coffees, and incredible organic foods.

Then there's the Irish experience in Baltimore! Places like the James Joyce Irish Pub, McFadden's Restaurant, Slainte and Mick O'Shea's Irish Pub, which all feature live music. Patrons are often treated to performances by Mayor Martin O'Malley's own band, O'Malley's March. Mayor O'Malley plays guitar and sings for this hometown favorite! If visitors get hungry for some good hearty Irish dishes, they can head to Clauddagh's Pub, Sean Bolan's Irish Pub or Dougherty's Irish Pub for some corned beef and cabbage or lamb stew.
