Central Baltimore
Where urban becomes urbane. Marble Hill, Bolton Hill, Mt. Vernon, Reservoir Hill, Seton Hill, and Madison Park are comprised mostly of large scale rowhouse buildings. Fifteen-foot ceilings, plaster moldings, and sitting parlors were built to impress, and they still do. You'll find some new construction, but much of the area is on the historic registry and deservedly so. (F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Bolton Hill when he wrote "Tender is the Night.") Within walking distance to many downtown offices, there's great shopping, dining, art, theatre, and, if you're lucky, a chance to be cast as an extra in one of many films shot in this area.
Highlights:
Hippodrome Theatre, Mt. Vernon Square, Lyric Opera House, Artscape, Mechanic Theatre, Flower Mart, Walters Art Museum, Peabody Institute, Center Stage and public sculpture along Mt. Royal Avenue.
