History

C.A.R.E. is part of the East Monument Historic District. Development began in the area in the 1870’s. The district was the center of the city’s Bohemian immigrant community. Many of the two-story Neoclassical row houses in this area were built by a group of Bohemian builders, including Frank Novak. Frank Novak later became the city’s most prolific builder of reasonably priced two-story houses, concentrating his efforts in the eastern and southeastern sections of the city as industrial expansion brought even more jobs to this area. Construction in the neighborhood was essentially completed in 1926. The current name of the neighborhood came from a 2004 established community association. The success of the association and pride of its resident allowed the name to be officially adopted in 2011.

Educational Resources

From pre-school to high school, Baltimore City’s schools serve students and families across more than 225 neighborhoods. Parents and students have numerous choices from public, private, parochial, and charter schools. Many elementary schools are zoned geographically, but are increasingly becoming schools of choice. All high schools are choice schools and all middle schools are becoming schools of choice in 2010-2011. This means students can apply to attend any school in the City regardless of their home address; some schools do have admission criteria. All charter schools and Transformation Schools have lotteries for admission.

Baltimore offers a wealth of opportunities when it comes to higher education at both the undergraduate, graduate and technical education levels. The seventeen colleges and universities within or near the City enroll more than 120,000 students. Through the Baltimore Collegetown Network, 16 area colleges cooperate and share resources, such as shuttle buses and libraries.

Shopping Centers

I like the way the green spaces and community gardens extend the home into the community. This quality of making the outside spaces more inviting and appealing create a sense of community with your neighbors through the interaction of everyone enjoying being outside. There is more of a connection between community members that I like.
