Seniors

Many senior citizens are staying in Baltimore City, or moving here, thanks to an ever-growing list of amenities.  We hope you will consider spending your golden years here in one of our neighborhoods!  Here are just a few reasons why we think you'll love living in Baltimore City:

Social Opportunities

There is always something going on in Baltimore City!  It’s easy to develop or expand your circle of friends through community centers, religious institutions, special interest classes and volunteer networks.  Experience Corps is just one example of a partnership between adults over the age of 55 who tutor students in Baltimore City Public Schools.

Public Transportation

Seniors who live outside the city and become unable to drive are often dependent upon others for basic transportation. Even if you are physically able to drive, the expenses of maintaining a car can be a major burden for someone living on a fixed income. In contrast, older residents in Baltimore City have access to public transportation, at discounted senior citizen rates.

Access to Medical Services

Wherever you live in Baltimore City, you will be close by to one of our world-class hospitals. But it’s not just emergency services that are readily available.  Living in Baltimore City, you will be close to doctors, specialists, and other types of care.  Find out more here.

Access to Local Businesses

City Residents often only need to walk one or two blocks to get their dry cleaning, pick up a loaf of bread, get a newspaper or find other daily living items they need.  Shopping opportunities are plentiful in Baltimore City, including our vibrant Buy Local Baltimore campaign.

Restaurants

Many seniors prefer the luxury of restaurant dining. Baltimore offers a wide variety of dining experiences, many of which are affordable, offer senior citizen discounts and/or deliver food to the customer’s home.

Fitness

Exercise is probably the single greatest thing any of us can do to improve and maintain our health. Baltimore City is home to great gyms, fitness centers, and other options tailored to the special fitness needs of older Americans. You can also simply go for a walk in one of our beautiful parks.

Continuing Education

Baltimore City is not just a Collegetown for youngsters!  Students of all ages have access to a wide range of classes, through local universities, museums, city recreation departments, etc.

Entertainment

Baltimore City offers access to everything from museums, theater and concerts to sporting events, festivals, zoos and historical sites.  And again, virtually all these attractions offer discounted rates to people over age 65.
