GLBTNeighborhoods all across Baltimore City are home to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their families. With a wealth of arts, social and cultural groups, and two local gay papers, Baltimore is a hub for the GLBT communities in our region. The Portal is Baltimore’s African-American GLBT center (now merged with Black Men’s Xchange) offers support groups, health services, and organizes Baltimore Black Gay Pride in October. The historic Mount Vernon neighborhood in Midtown is known as a center of the GLBT community in Baltimore, and houses the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore (GLCCB) which puts on Gay Pride every June. There are also many GLBT owned and friendly bar and restaurants in the neighborhood along with Chase-Brexton Health Services which provide community health care with a focus on the GLBT communities. Our city has diverse social and cultural groups including the New Wave Singers which is a chorus made up of GLBT people and straight allies, and We are Hip Hop Too, a group of LGBT female hip-hop artists. Baltimore has two local gay papers, Baltimore Gay Life and Baltimore Outloud. Local colleges and universities also have GLBT resources and groups, listed at the Baltimore Collegetown Network’s site. | |||||||||
